Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today, we give thanks for our friends, family, the trials that have made us stronger, and the blessings and milestones we meet with tears and celebrations. Let’s remember gratitude and kindness. Giving back. Let’s remember that everybody is important, and that everybody has a story, whether they live in a car or in a castle.  All of us have been through more than we share, and all of our stories are important.

Let’s be thankful for our stories.

For each other.

For this crazy, beautiful, scary, confusing, messy, wonderful, amazing life.

What are you all up to? Are you celebrating? With tofurkey or the real stuff? Do you have a traditional feast, or order pizza?  I’d love to know!

  • Considerer - How the hell do you do it. It’s NINE sentences. Nine. And somehow, within that, you convey SO MUCH, and all of it gorgeous.

    *shakes head in awe*

I’m doing something special tomorrow. Not food, but blog. Should be good 🙂November 27, 2013 – 5:38 pmReplyCancel

  • Brittnei - Haha! I actually saw someone make a tofuturkey on this family Thanksgiving challenge on TV! We actually don’t make turkey. Hubby doesn’t love it so I made a whole chicken instead. I love what you said about everyone’s story and where everyone is right now in their lives. We don’t the whole story. Loving everyone regardless is important. 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you have a wonderful day with family and friends!November 27, 2013 – 5:48 pmReplyCancel

  • Kristi Campbell - Considerer,
Aw! You are too kind! I can’t wait to see what you’re up to tomorrow that’s special! Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Kristi Campbell - Brittnei,
Did you really? I’ve never seen a tofurkey in real life! I don’t mind tofu usually but molding a turkey out of it is something that I think is beyond hilarious. I hope you have a wonderful day, too! And a whole chicken sounds yummy…

  • Kerith Stull - Great, simple post…LOVE it!! Hubby and I are helping prepare turkey at a local church for needy families (Helloooo 7:30am start time!). Late breakfast and hanging out all day before frying our turkey at the usual dinner time for our little family of four (plus #1 daughter’s boyfriend). Happy Thanksgiving! I’m thankful I found you!!November 27, 2013 – 6:06 pmReplyCancel

  • Lizzy - Muddle-Headed Mamma - You have such a way with words, Kristi. So true – everybody has been through more than they share. One night, in a really crowded restaurant, someone once said to me: “Everybody in the room has a story that would make you cry”. I’ve never forgotten that. Happy Thanksgiving to you, you wonderful woman.November 27, 2013 – 6:09 pmReplyCancel

  • Janine Huldie - Happy Thanksgiving to you, your husband and Tucker. Hope you have a wonderful day and seriously I am so repeating the rest here, but you do have a way with words!! 🙂November 27, 2013 – 6:12 pmReplyCancel

  • Kristi Campbell - Kerith,
I LOVE that you are preparing turkey for needy families! 7:30 start time isn’t the most fun but you’ll get so much out of the day. My husband’s family fries their turkeys as well! I’d never heard of it before meeting him but MMMM delicious. We’ll be in the car heading to their place (for 6 1/2 hours). Happy Thanksgiving! I’m thankful that I found you, too!November 27, 2013 – 6:31 pmReplyCancel

  • Kristi Campbell - Lizzy,
I love the line “everybody in the room has a story that would make you cry.” That is so so true, isn’t it? Several stories that would make us cry. I hope that I never forget that line, either. And thank you so much for the lovely comment and visit. Happy Thanksgiving to YOU. You’re pretty wonderful yourself, ya know.November 27, 2013 – 6:32 pmReplyCancel

  • Dana - Happy Thanksgiving, Kristi. I’m hosting a small dinner with my parents and in-laws, since all of the siblings are with their in-laws. And I’m thankful that we’ve met in real life. Let’s do lunch soon!November 27, 2013 – 7:24 pmReplyCancel

  • Kenya G. Johnson - Ha! I grew up with tofurkey! Since I married a CARNIVORE, we will be having Turkey. Our just the three of us Thanksgiving just came together today. We tried to talk Christopher into something untraditional like gumbo but he said, “No, we gotta have Turkey”. So we each picked something that we wanted as a side and there you have it. I’m actually excited now. He got us out of a holiday funk. You all have a wonderful day! See ya soon.November 27, 2013 – 7:52 pmReplyCancel

  • Linda Atwell - Out One Ear - Happy Thanksgiving back at you! We are going to my sister’s for Turkey Day and spending time with her family. Lindsey and Nick are going to his parents. My son is in or near Texas. My mother is in Arizona. Since my Dad died and my mother remarried, as far as the holidays, traditions have have scattered in many directions. We’ve had to invent new traditions. It’s all good though. I made my yummy pumpkin rolls today. My somewhat famous niece (Tenley Molzahn (yes, I’m not above name dropping) from The Bachelor will be in attendance and we always get to hear all the Southern Cal gossip). And I leave for Aruba with my sisters on Friday. We join my cousin there (she owns a condo and invited us for 10 glorious days). All in all, I’d say this is going to be one fantastic holiday weekend. (I’m kinda of embarrassed to share that I’ll be traveling again, but what can I say? I love to travel. I’m happiest when I am. And I’m thankful that I get to.)November 28, 2013 – 1:09 amReplyCancel

    Rich,
Your Thanksgiving sounds almost perfect. Absolutely perfect, in fact! Enjoy the day!!!

    Linda,
I know what you mean about family traditions going out the window a bit with parents here and there. My mom is in Montana, my dad in Colorado, hubs family in Tennessee, so our tradition becomes that we travel.
I can’t BELIEVE you’re going to Aruba! I’m so jealous, especially right on the heels of just getting back from Costa Rica! I love that you get to travel so much. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Your day today sounds really fun!November 28, 2013 – 8:36 amReplyCancel

  • Mama C. - It was a low-key Thanksgiving around these parts…so low key that I arrived at the dinner table in my flannel PJs. (Ah, the perks of staying home on Turkey Day, lol). It was just me, DH, the babies and my mom…and her bichon who thinks he is a person. Dinner was lovely. Anyhow, do you know what I am thankful for? That I’ve connected with you. Really, I am…by now I’m sure you are at your destination and (hopefully) enjoying moonshine. I, on the other hand, am sans alcohol since my mother and I polished off the last of the champs by 3 p.m. (sigh) Happy Thanksgiving! And safe travels upon your return.November 28, 2013 – 9:12 pmReplyCancel

  • Angel The Alien - We have a potluck feast… my mom makes a turkey and some vegetables, and everyone else brings stuff. Also this year my mom made baked macaroni and cheese, which was my request… yummyyummyyummy!November 28, 2013 – 9:45 pmReplyCancel

  • jamie@southmainmuse - We have a pretty traditional Thanksgiving — but we are thinking of having an unconventional Christmas since our house is torn up. Maybe going away the whole week??? But for both holidays the main focus is to realize all we are blessed with. Hope you are enjoying your holiday.November 29, 2013 – 6:22 pmReplyCancel

  • Kimberly - Happy belated thanksgiving love. We celebrated my husband’s half-breededness at my mother in laws. She cooked the bird until it was a mummy. I used it as a tooth pick.November 30, 2013 – 2:23 pmReplyCancel

  • Kristi Campbell - Shay,
    Yay for parades! And blogs!!

    Nina,
Duck in a chicken in a turkey? Wow. I’m not sure whether to be impressed or a little bit freaked out!!

    Mama C,
I love that you dined and drank champers in your pj’s. Love. Sounds like a really wonderful day!! And I’m really glad that I’ve connected with you, too!!

    Angel,
Mac and cheese is one of my all-time favorite foods. Hooray to your mom for making it!

    Chris,
Full and tired and grateful. Sounds perfect. xoxo

    Jamie,
Yes! Go away for the week! I think that sounds wonderful. Somewhere tropical maybe??

    Kim,
EW. Sorry ’bout that!! Maybe she resented cooking foe an ‘Merican holiday and that was her way of reminding you that you are Canadian.December 1, 2013 – 10:26 amReplyCancel
