The Our Land Series

I accept guest authors for The Our Land Series! If you have a story that has a theme of empathy and acceptance, consider submitting it (just email me) for the Our Land Series! Here’s a bit about how the series began:

One day, I wrote a post called The Land of Empathy and Wonder, wondering how my little boy sees the world. In marveling at the beauty in which he looks at life, I declared that I want to live in Our Land – a place where empathy and wonder rule.  Where quirks and differences are celebrated and everybody is appreciated for his own uniqueness.

This land exists. It exists right now in some of you, if only ideally.  We, my friends, have the power to transform our worlds, our ideal places, and our homes into The Land of Empathy and Wonder.

It starts with you.  With me.  With our children.  With how we choose to spend the next five minutes.  With being able, tomorrow, when we’re stressed out and overwhelmed and busy and annoyed, to be able to take a moment to NOT look away.  To try and make eye contact with the boy who makes you uncomfortable.  To say hi and to give his tired mom a smile.  Read more…

Because you responded with such enthusiasm and support, I realized that there’s a whole world of us out there who also crave Our Land, and it became a series. Each week, I feature a different voice chosen specifically to make us think, wonder, and appreciate differing viewpoints and abilities.

The following new community is what has transpired. I’m honored and humbled that Our Land has grown in ways I’d never have imagined. Although this began as a special needs series, it’s morphed to include all Our Land supporters – from autism to cerebral palsy to body image to sensory processing to our education system.  This has become a place where the dreamers among us have gathered to create acceptance.  Join us?

The Our Land Series…post by post (most recent first).  And thank you.

      • Lisa @ The Meaning of Me - What, an Our Land post? What would I write?February 1, 2014 – 10:48 pmReplyCancel

        • Kristi Campbell - Sure why not? It can be anything that focuses on bring empathy and wonder to a situation or a person or life. Maybe there was a teased kid in school that you saw another side to. Maybe there was an incident with your kids that you saw unfairness in. Maybe you felt excluded due to (fill in the blank) at some point. Our Land isn’t just special needs. There’s one about being a cop, (actually two), one on body image, one on pregnancy loss, one on being an immigrant, one on being the only black girl in an all-white school, one on being called fat by her son…the list goes on. Think about it. It’ll be here when you decide on the perfect story to share! XOFebruary 2, 2014 – 5:56 pmReplyCancel

          • Lisa @ The Meaning of Me - Hmm. OK, thanks for the invite, Kristi! I’ll have to think about that one. 🙂February 2, 2014 – 7:21 pm

  • Mike - I was looking around your site and clicked on Our Land. I’m soooo thrilled I did. This is wonderful! Do you and your husband have any sort of Foundation or Fund set up on behalf of Tucker for special needs children or children with autism? Please let me know because Phoenix and I would gladly contribute, Kristi! All of our love to you guys. Contact me and let me know please 🙂February 1, 2014 – 9:57 pmReplyCancel

    • Kristi Campbell - Awww! You are so sweet! We don’t actually have a fund set up. Last year, we raised money for Tucker’s class to get iPads (helps with speech and language development). If we do something similar, I’ll definitely let you know and thank you!!!February 1, 2014 – 10:54 pmReplyCancel

  • http://www.kfzversicherungvergleichtech.pw/ - I’ve recently started avoiding wearing a bra whenever possible. Thankfully I have a pretty small cup size, so I just layer a tank top or something and get by. I don’t think anyone can tell, but lately I’ve wished I had a close enough guy friend I could ask, outright.August 19, 2017 – 3:42 amReplyCancel

  • All natural - I think that what you said was actually
very logical. However, think on this, suppose you added a little content?
I mean, I don’t want to tell you how to run your blog, however suppose you added a
title that grabbed folk’s attention? I mean The Our Land Series – Finding Ninee is kinda vanilla.
You might glance at Yahoo’s home page and note how they create article headlines
to get people to open the links. You might add a video or a picture or two to get readers
interested about what you’ve written. Just my opinion, it
    would make your posts a little bit more interesting.November 9, 2017 – 8:47 amReplyCancel
