Today, I am thankful for…

There are moments, people, and situations that I am thankful for every day.  They include Tucker, Robert, family, friends, blogging, and you. On this particular weekend, I am thankful for…

  1. Robert taking Tucker to the backyard, the carwash and the playground so that I was able to indulge in a much needed, 3-hour-long, ridiculously expensive hair appointment that made me feel prettier than I have in months.
  2. That Deb from Urban Moo Cow reminded me to be compassionate with myself this week.  Because of her words, rather than number one on this list looking like this today:
    • It looks like this:
  3. That those who knew me when I wore blue eye shadow continue to be my friends.
  4. Text.  I failed at a New Year’s resolution yesterday and was able to use this amazing bit of technology to alert my friend that I still have not figured out how to remain accident-free and that we would not be meeting her and her son at the bounce house after all. The awesome conversation that flowed from our fingers afterward.
  5. That the twists and turns in the roads of my life have brought me to where I am today.
  6. Adrenaline.  It allows me to morph from a screaming arm flailing scardey-cat to a deadly spider assassin within mere seconds.  As in, faster than Clark becomes Superman. Please do not comment that spiders are nice and should be freed to live in the wild of my backyard, because they are not nice.  They would hide, find me later, crawl deep into my ear canal, nest, and lay 1,001 spider babies.
  7. Nachos.
  8. That Tucker said “Bye, Mommy.”  Without tears.
  9. Sleeping in this morning.
  10. Tucker understanding imaginative play.

UPDATE:  It goes without saying that the people who have hosted and linked up with us today are incredible and amazing and lovely, lovely people.  With that said (even though I said that it goes without saying and then said it anyway), I want to give an extra shout-out.  If you guys aren’t familiar with my amazing friends Kerri from Undaignosed but OK and Courtney from Our Small Moments, check them out.  They both linked up with us today and I want to say that I am so thankful for their wisdom and friendship.  You may remember Kerri as an Our Land contributor but I wonder whether some of you know Courtney.  Courtney humbled me today.  She found some beautiful things to be thankful for in spite of her living in uncertainty and fear while supporting her sweet and goofy husband’s battle with that terrifying bastard we call cancer.

This has been a link up with The Considerer’s from Considering’s Ten Things of Thankful.  Join us. Tell us what you’re thankful for.

  • Considerer - I LOVE your second picture – good for you.

And wow, I thought I was the only person who is terrified that spiders or flies might crawl into their ears! Hate that. I feel like they’re making a beeline for my eardrums.

    And bless Tucker 🙂

Thank you for joining in with the hosting – I hope my HTML advice is any good at all!June 9, 2013 – 11:37 amReplyCancel

  • Sara - I’m especially glad to see #2 on your list. We all love self-deprecating humor, but there have been times on your blog when it has crossed over to self-abuse and I don’t care for that. I happen to really like the person taking the abuse. Kinda makes me want to punch the abuser in the face to protect you…..but then I’d be punching YOU b/c you’re the abuser. Punching you to stop you from being abused doesn’t seem too efficient.

So I’m confused and I guess you’d say our relationship is complicated.
    🙂June 9, 2013 – 11:42 amReplyCancel

    • Kristi Campbell - PPS to Sara,
You are one if the friends I was talking about yesterday who had given me amazing and powerful moments. In case that wasn’t obvious…June 9, 2013 – 12:48 pmReplyCancel

  • Kenya G. Johnson - Wonderful link up! Today I’m thankful for microwave pancakes because my husband and I had smoothies and I really didn’t wanted to make one breakfast. Anyhoo love that you got 3 hours of me time and a hairdo at the same time. Lol to #2. I’ve been keeping that post in mind too. #8 made me smile because I know how important that is.June 9, 2013 – 11:44 amReplyCancel

  • Kristi Campbell - Considerer,
Thank you for letting me know that I am not alone in fearing that spiders and other nasty little creatures could crawl into our ears!
Thanks for inviting me to host with you – this is awesome!June 9, 2013 – 11:57 amReplyCancel

  • Kristi Campbell - Sara,
Hm. I completely get wanting to punch the abuser in the face sometimes but not wanting to because you know, then I’d have to punch myself in the face. Which sounds painful AND complicated. Thank you for not punching me in the face. And for liking me. I like you back. A whole huge lots.June 9, 2013 – 11:59 amReplyCancel

  • Kristi Campbell - Kenya,
Cheers to microwave pancakes! Yum!! Glad you’ve been keeping Deb’s post in mind. Thanks for the smile on number 8. It’s a big one. And hey – come link up with us! It’s really fun and surprisingly easy to chose 10 things to be thankful for.June 9, 2013 – 12:00 pmReplyCancel

  • Kristi Campbell - PS Sara –
Thanks for the comment. Knowing you were here makes me so happy every time.June 9, 2013 – 12:00 pmReplyCancel

  • Considerer - Your links look gorgeous – I’m so glad the new coding worked and thank you again for joining in 🙂June 9, 2013 – 12:34 pmReplyCancel

  • Janine Huldie - Such a cute picture of Tucker and seriously I am so happy that this hop started. And love us being able to share all we are thankful for and sounds like you, too have a lot indeed, especially the nachos, lol!! 🙂June 9, 2013 – 1:16 pmReplyCancel

  • Courtney - Aw, Kristi, this is an awesome list! Thanks for sharing and inspiring a post. I don’t do many of those these days. I hope you are well friend! I read your posts, I am just a terrible commenter these days!June 9, 2013 – 1:21 pmReplyCancel

  • christine - Finally broke down and became a texter, huh? It took me a while, too, but now…Use it all the time. Who knew it could be so handy? 🙂
That is an adorable photo of Tucker.
With you and Considerer, that makes three people I know who are afraid of a spider crawling in their ears and laying eggs. There must be a name for it.June 9, 2013 – 2:31 pmReplyCancel

  • Sara - BTW, I don’t always comment, but I ALWAYS read your posts.
    Huge hug back. 🙂June 9, 2013 – 2:45 pmReplyCancel

  • Sara - PPS – Just saw your pps. Me? Really??? Awwww. Sweet. ….tho’ I fear the most powerful moments are when I’m being a stellar example of what NOT to do. LOL. …for ex, last week, I was trying to pull the covers up higher and they were stuck (Kevin was on them) so I had to pull REALLY hard. I lost my grip and punched myself in the mouth. For real. Unbelievable how much it hurt. I thought I had loosened a tooth (but I didn’t -whew). Lesson learned: if I WERE to punch myself for belittling me, I could seriously kick my own ass. 😉June 9, 2013 – 3:22 pmReplyCancel

  • Melissa@Home on Deranged - I laughed in a shivery kind of way to #6 because – your 1,001 spider babies is a fear of mine as well – I once interviewed this woman with a brown recluse spider bite that had taken over her abdominal tissue (yes, she showed it to me. blech!), and their best guess was the thing had been nesting in their bed and one night crawled up and bit her. Holy freaking crap!
    p.s. thanks for introducing me to this hop. I love it.June 9, 2013 – 4:22 pmReplyCancel

  • Yvonne - This is a great post and a great idea for a blog hop. If it’s going to be regular I will try to join in another Sunday.June 9, 2013 – 4:32 pmReplyCancel

  • Jamie Thomas - What a great list! Thanks for posting this. We have a child on the spectrum and he has been such a blessing. He makes us see things in a way wouldn’t normally do! If you would like to follow my blog its http://www.jamiedimmitt.blogspot.com.June 9, 2013 – 4:32 pmReplyCancel

  • Dyanne @ I Want Backsies - Okay, so since I creeped on your “about” page, I now think #10 is probably the best thing on your list. That pretend play in a child who may be on the spectrum is fabulous! Next would be #6, because we all know the only good spider is a dead spider, except for Charlotte. And then #7, because nachos are just plain delicious.June 9, 2013 – 4:57 pmReplyCancel

  • Lori Lavender Luz - I’m not sure, but I think I qualify for #3.

And I am always here to remind you to be compassionate with yourself, as you are with Tucker.

    XOXOJune 9, 2013 – 5:26 pmReplyCancel

  • Kristi Campbell - (working backwards now)

    Lori,
I think by then, I’d gotten lazy enough to ditch it on most work days but when my friends and I hit the bars at midnight, you bet that I was all gussied up in my blue eye shadow!

    Dyanne,
Agreed that #10 is the best thing on the list and thank you for creeping on my about page (and for the reminder that I need to update it). And yes, I guess Charlotte can stick around but only as long as she stays out of MY house.

    Jamie,
Thanks for the link! Tucker is indeed a blessing. They all are! Going to check out your blog right now.

    Yvonne,
Yes, we’re doing it every weekend and you can hook up at anytime Saturday or Sunday! It was Lizzie at The Considerer’s idea.
    —Melissa,
EW to her showing you her abdominal tissue that was rotted from a nasty spider bite. Ew ew ew.June 9, 2013 – 6:05 pmReplyCancel

  • Kristi Campbell - Sara,
    YES. you. you you you.
While I’m sorry that you actually punched yourself in the face (not laughing, not laughing, not laughing…heh…heee heee….not laughing), I appreciate the reminder of the movie quote in Liar, Liar when Jim Carey was kicking his own ass in the bathroom!June 9, 2013 – 6:07 pmReplyCancel

  • Kristi Campbell - Sara,
You ALWAYS read my posts? Awwww. Thank you.June 9, 2013 – 6:08 pmReplyCancel

  • Kristi Campbell - Christine,
Texting is AWESOME. If you find the name for it, will you let me know? And I love that photo too! Thanks!

    Courtney,
SO glad you’re linking up with us and your list is awesome. I really admire your ability to continue to find the amazing moments, the laughter and the hugs each week. I hope that this is one where those moments come more easily and that Scott is feeling well.

    Janine,
    Yes. Nachos. 🙂June 9, 2013 – 6:12 pmReplyCancel

  • clark - ok I can deal with the (fairly) amusing role reversal of being the minority gender here in the blogosphere… we men folk are very sensitive and are into our feelings and such, but we have learned to participate in a quiet demur-like manner….

but are you telling me that you got the code for the 10 Grat blog hop and it worked the *first* time…and perfectly?!?! …and I got the same code from Considerer and am still struggling to get the godamn link thingie to stop cycling and to display the other links… and no my lower lip is not quivering… but it’s just not fair!!

    lol

Good Post… will you be joining us as a co-hostini. Kristi?

    arachnophobia is not funny…

totally not surprised by your above described transformation when the time comes… clarks have a way of doing that. Not just becoming braver or more decisive or any other ‘er’
We simply do what must be done, without a lot of fanfare (and this is the strange part) after we have dealt with the emergency and have done what is necessary, most of the people nearby at the time seem unable to remember it our extraordinary behavior! (except for the very young and dogs.)June 9, 2013 – 7:50 pmReplyCancel

  • Deb @ Urban Moo Cow - Aw, thanks for the shout-out and I’m so glad my words helped you duct tape your meanie devil’s mouth shut for even a moment. It’s a start. Yesterday I felt proud of myself for a race I did. Even though it wasn’t my fastest time, it was a really good time for the me I am now. Also a start!

Also. Glad Sara didn’t punch you in the face, too. 🙂June 9, 2013 – 9:49 pmReplyCancel

  • Joy@icansaymama - I was already afraid you would miss the party because you were so late!

Your hair appointment sound like pure stress relief! And don’t get me started on spiders. There are not many animals I detest more. They creep and freak me out COMPLETELY!!June 10, 2013 – 3:55 amReplyCancel

  • SocialButterflyMom - Can I add eye glitter to “blue eyeshadow?”June 10, 2013 – 8:31 amReplyCancel

  • Kristi Campbell - Clark,
NO, I did not in fact get the code working the first time – Lizzie had to help me out. I guess different codes work better for different blogs (format or whatever). I’ll send you the code.
And what is UP with only the very young and dogs noticing our extraordinary behavior, anyway? Sigh.
    And yes! I’ll be a co-hostini! YAY us 🙂

    Deb,
I think you should be proud for doing a race at all. That’s pretty huge and much more than I’ve done this week. I mean this year.

    Joy,
The hair appointment really was the best stress relief!

    Social Butterfly Mom,
    Yes! Please add glitter.June 10, 2013 – 9:28 amReplyCancel

  • Kim Pugliano - 1. It took me 10 minutes to scroll to the bottom of the list of comments (I exaggerate a tiny bit).
    2. I have an app on my phone. It’s a Grateful app and it’s really pretty and it’s basically, “Today I am grateful for” and I make a list. I started in March and have not missed a single day. I LOVE it. No matter how bad my day is I have to find thingS I’m grateful for. It has a bunch of awesome options. Every evening I post it on Instagram, hoping to inspire someone else.
    3. I wanted to buy Hot Joe a Maverick t-shirt for Father’s day. He has a 1973 Ford Maverick. I found a site that had an AWESOME shirt that ONLY had 72 Maverick so I emailed them and they made a 73 for me. I keep seeing BOTH shirts in adds on peoples’ pages. I saw it on yours! I can’t wait until I can tell him.

    That is all.June 10, 2013 – 12:37 pmReplyCancel

    • Kristi Campbell - Kim,
      1. Well a bunch of them are just me so…um, yeah…
      2. I am going to download that app because AWESOME!
      3. That’s hilarious! I can’t believe it – take a screen shot?
      4. I just went to your site and WEEP – I hope everything is okay? I’ll miss you…and hurry back.June 10, 2013 – 6:06 pmReplyCancel

  • Kate - That devil’s mouth should be permanently duct taped!June 10, 2013 – 2:12 pmReplyCancel

  • Stephanie @ Mommy, for real. - Oh, I loved this! Especially #8 and #10- those made my heart swell! This is a great idea for a blog-hop. Maybe one week I’ll break my “Weekends are off-limits for blogging” rule and join it… I feel happier already! xoJune 10, 2013 – 3:41 pmReplyCancel

  • Dana - Your list made me smile, Kristi – I’m thankful for these blog posts about being thankful, because they remind me of all I have to be thankful for. And I’m also thankful for the duct tape on your devil-Kristi – keep her nasty mouth shut!June 10, 2013 – 4:17 pmReplyCancel

  • Stephanie @ Life, Unexpectedly - Glad that you got to get pampered! I’m currently trying to get my doctor to prescribe massages to get pampered on the insurance’s dime. Happy Monday 😉June 10, 2013 – 4:52 pmReplyCancel

  • Kristi Campbell - Kate,
Agreed! Easier drawn than done though, huh?

    Stephanie,
YAY to feeling happier! I hope you decide to join!

    Dana,
Hehe to being thankful for blog hops that remind you to be thankful. And yeah, I will try to keep the duct tape on her mouth but she’s sneaky.

    Stephanie,
OOOH how awesome to be able to get massages on insurance’s dime! Fingers crossed for you!June 10, 2013 – 6:17 pmReplyCancel

  • Menopausalmother - This is so wonderful Kristi! #8 very poignant. #7 should be considered part of the food groups because I could live on them and #6 OMG too funny…but it also skeeved me out. I had a spider in my room the other day. Probably should have slept with on eye open because now I am worried about all those babies….June 11, 2013 – 12:32 pmReplyCancel

  • Kimberly - Spider assassin?
Do you put that on your resume?
    hee hee.June 11, 2013 – 1:39 pmReplyCancel

  • Jak - Wait… wait! Look what I found!

2x the trouble, 2x the fun!

Wanted to stop by and say thank you for coming by this weekend! Great list 🙂 I really like the name Tucker. That whole imagination/superman bit, though… is where I break a leg jumping from couch to table to bed to dresser, etc etc lol Sounds like you are one of those accident prone people? I may have misunderstood, but I will have to check out the links you referenced.

That inner-critique is a real SoB. I may have to invest in some duct tape myself!

Looking forward to hearing about all you are thankful for in the weeks to come 🙂

  • Jen - Such an amazing post, I love your funny stuff but I love your heartfelt stuff just as well. Plus I also have to love you because Isaiah and Tucker both wear Hannah pj’s. Cause you know they’re the best 🙂
And I would still love you even if you wore blue eyeshadow now, mwah!June 12, 2013 – 10:41 amReplyCancel
