Do you ever live your life as if stalkers were watching?

Do you live your life as if stalkers are watching?

I do.  I know.  It’s not only weird but disturbing and you’re probably thinking that I need (more) therapy.

Which is why I invented my demented fun game of “Somebody is watching me.”  The best thing about my little made-up game is that it can be played anywhere.  I’ll be meandering along when I realize that somebody could be watching me.  And, because of that, I become a better person.

I think I stand up straighter when people are watching. FindingNinee.com

Notice how in the above realistic picture that I am not sucking it in until I think somebody’s watching me?  How my posture got better and how my hair got combed?  That’s how I roll.  Although, even when I’m trying, I do not look nearly as good in real life as I do in this drawing.  Just so you know.

This morning.  Driving Tucker to school, in the rain, with other things like work and blogging and how I haven’t washed my hair since Saturday on my mind, the “Somebody’s watching me” paranoia set in and all of a sudden and I became a better mother.  The kind of mother who realizes that she’s being filmed.  I was all “Hey!  Look at the tree that fell down!”  I engaged my son in the car because that’s what good moms do.  Er, the ones who think they might be being secretly filmed, anyway…

Also?  The shower.  I pretty much always feel like somebody’s watching me.  It’s not a bad thing.  Because hello armpits.

Were I able to get away with not washing shaving, I might be tempted to do so.  Which basically equals a “you’re welcome.”  Because since I saw this in my imaginary shower-world…

I got clean.  And shaved.  You’re welcome.

This post is part of Twisted mix-tape Tuesday, invented by Jen Kehl.  I suck at it.  Jen doesn’t.  Oh!  Wondering what song could possibly be playing on a loop in my mind while writing this?  Hello, topic of “Stalker Songs: You might think I’m a stalker, but you just don’t know how much you love me.”  Yup, I’m hooking you up with Somebody’s Watching Me.  Hi again 80’s.

  • Kenya G. Johnson - I just said the other day that I hate high maintenance season. You can just run out in a winter hat and cover up wrinkled clothes and so on. In high maintenance season everything needs to be done from head to toe – you know – because somebody is watching.April 30, 2013 – 7:21 amReplyCancel

  • TheSocialButterflyMom - I have a three step process for procrastinating hair washing:
Day 1: Leave it down, grease and all
Day 2: Use said grease to pull it up in the middle
Day 3: Leave it pulled up in the middle; just put a hat over itApril 30, 2013 – 8:05 amReplyCancel

  • Janine Huldie - Your graphic really had me laughing, because don’t we all suck in the mommy gut (as I call it) every once in awhile when you think others are looking. And I am with Kenya on hating having to be more mindful as the weather gets warmer (especially shaving my legs, lol). But seriously, thanks for the above visual again 🙂April 30, 2013 – 8:06 amReplyCancel

  • Courtney - I love your drawings…The Truman show made us all paranoid…Ha!April 30, 2013 – 8:14 amReplyCancel

  • Alicia D - Im even MORE demented in that I don’t just think someone might be stalking me, I think it’s a murdering, sadistic rapist so I’m always looking doors behind me… when I pull into my attached garage I make sure the auto garage door shutter thing has shut the door all the way before I even UNlock my car doors. Then I go into my house first before my kids so if an ax murder is in there, he’ll kill me first and they’ll get a chance to flee.

    Im so warped.April 30, 2013 – 8:57 amReplyCancel

  • The Sadder But Wiser Girl - Holy Cow I forgot about that song! HA HA!April 30, 2013 – 9:04 amReplyCancel

  • Stephanie @ Mommy, for real. - I LOVE this! And I had no idea it was part of the mix-tape thing, and yet still, the entire time I was reading it, that song was playing in my head. Seriously.

So, it was mostly funny, but also, there’s a little something to that concept that may actually be a beneficial strategy for making us better people. So, way to go- giving us a helpful life lesson AND making us laugh all at once. That’s talent.April 30, 2013 – 9:17 amReplyCancel

  • Kerri - I thought the something similar in the drop-off with Boo this morning. If I drop her off, she does not have a hair out of place. If Hubs does it? She might have cheerios on her shirt. And I am okay with that as long as the teachers know it is his fault 🙂April 30, 2013 – 12:10 pmReplyCancel

  • Dana - Ok, I read Jen’s post first, and that was the song I added to her list. That video creeped me out as a kid. I feel like someone’s watching me at the weirdest times, which means when someone is actually watching I am probably picking a wedgie or have toilet paper on my shoe.April 30, 2013 – 12:25 pmReplyCancel

  • Melissa@Home on Deranged - And now I will have that song stuck in my head all day. With the Michael Jackson part on constant loop. Thanks so much. 😉
I fall into the “utterly oblivious someone is watching me” category. Which explains a lot my behavior in public.April 30, 2013 – 12:59 pmReplyCancel

  • Jen - I don’t think I’d shave even if I were being watched….but in the shower? That’s your biggest worry! I can’t remember the last time I showered so don’t feel bad. Dogs got a bath, that covered my legs, kid got a shower, that covered my arms.
Great song by the way….didn’t even think of it. That’s why I love this game so much!!
You rock even though you are wacko badacko 🙂April 30, 2013 – 2:02 pmReplyCancel

  • Kim @ 2justByou - LOL – Love this!!! =0)

  • SmackOfHam (John) - With kids it’s so hard to take care of yourself sometimes…I get up, get one ready for school, the little one gets up, and it’s late afternoon before you get a break…until the school girl gets home. I’ve always assumed no one is watching me – if someone did, my disheveled self wouldn’t keep their interest too long, anyway.April 30, 2013 – 3:06 pmReplyCancel

  • Anita @ Losing Austin - I still need to figure out what this Mixed Tape Tuesday is all about! But love the post- I think shaving is overrated. And hats are my best friend!April 30, 2013 – 4:35 pmReplyCancel

  • Kate - I can often be found laying down in the shower. I know its weird, but I get so darn tired!!April 30, 2013 – 4:45 pmReplyCancel

  • Dakota - I should definitely start playing this ‘game’. I think I’d be a better person if I thought someone was watching me. All the time. 🙂
I may even correct my (awful) posture. 🙂

    Thanks for the smile!
    ~DakotaApril 30, 2013 – 6:42 pmReplyCancel

  • MJM - Yeah…I stalking yo…or um I mean somebody is stalking you…crazy…right.

I have nothing to worry about…no one in their right mind would stalk me…not when they could be stalking so many other interesting people.April 30, 2013 – 9:12 pmReplyCancel

  • Shay - YOU need your own reality show, my friend! That way you’d get paid to act like someone was watching you. And your shower, with the red light? Hilarious!April 30, 2013 – 11:00 pmReplyCancel

  • Jessica - I love that song. Also, I am glad I am not the only one who feels like people are watching me all the time. Ha!May 1, 2013 – 12:35 amReplyCancel

  • Meredith - You are so funny! This is all so true and your first graphic had me cracking up b/c I can relate just a little too well. Happy shaving!May 1, 2013 – 2:49 pmReplyCancel

  • Jean Heff - I used to think like this when I was a teenager and was doing something I knew I shouldn’t. I’d imagine my parents had put a recording device in my car/ room and they just KNEW.
I am definitely a better person when I’m being watched. You make a great point that we should pretend this more often and since you made it funny I won’t resent you for this new habit 🙂May 1, 2013 – 8:21 pmReplyCancel

  • clark - another excellent Twisted Tuesday!* I have to admit, I enjoy ‘blog hops’ like these that present a challenge ( ‘but I don’t have a clue what to write..60 minutes? oh why didn’t you say so…plenty of time’).
But this (along with FTSF) I try to never miss.

Hey! is this the right place to put the Comments? or should I put them in the upper section? ..someday I will understand this blog thing lol

    *twisted tape? not Twisted Tuesday…now that makes more sense!May 1, 2013 – 8:29 pmReplyCancel

  • Mod Mom Beyond IndieDom - Oh yes…the all too familiar “suck it in” maneuver. Even with spanx. *sigh* I love that you picked this song, because I had it looping in my head yesterday when I was thinking about my list. 😉May 1, 2013 – 10:33 pmReplyCancel

  • Joy - What a fun game! Will have to try that, too! And your pictures are awesome, as always! Haha!May 14, 2013 – 11:47 amReplyCancel

    • Kristi - Joy,
Wow, you really ARE catching up today, pal! THANK YOU <3May 14, 2013 – 7:17 pmReplyCancel

  • Joy - I told you I would! 😉

    If only I got paid for all that hard work! 😉 LOL!May 15, 2013 – 2:24 amReplyCancel

    • Kristi - You did tell me! And I believed you but didn’t realize to what extent you’d take your promise. So thank you! And hm. Paid indeed. Do you want a paperback or Kindle version of the Life Well Blogged book? I got the paperback ones I ordered yesterday and still have a free one on Amazon – yours for the having if you want. Other than that…hmmm….May 15, 2013 – 7:42 amReplyCancel

  • Joy - LOL You don’t have to pay me for reading your awesome blog, I was just kidding!

Apart from that I don’t own a kindle or any other reader, so you would need to ship the paperback book to Germany and that would probably be more expensive than the book itself! So thank you so much for thinking about it, I really appreciate that, but it is not necessary! I really love that you thought about that! xoxo You just rock!

(PS: but that does not mean I am not interested in the book!! So if you want to ship it to me I will of course gladly accept your kind offer!)May 15, 2013 – 8:42 amReplyCancel

    • Kristi - Joy,
Well I know I don’t have to pay but I would be happy to mail you the book if you’d like it! Just let me know, okay!?
You. Are. Awesome. Seriously I adore you. XOXOMay 15, 2013 – 7:26 pmReplyCancel
